Hello dear readers,
You’re receiving this because you had previously received the Cipher newsletter or you have signed up in the last few weeks. Thank you for continuing on this journey with me! If you’d like to opt out, you can unsubscribe at any time.
I’m writing to share some news — I’m (re)joining Axios as their national energy correspondent!
I’ll be covering the future of energy, and everything that broad beat entails. I’ll remain based in Seattle and can’t wait to report on local issues with global implications.
I’d love to hear from you on the ideas I should be covering. If you’re reading this in your inbox, hit reply and let me know what you think or just say hello. Adding me to your contacts also helps make sure these updates land in your inbox.
Two things I’ll be focusing on that especially excite me:
- Artificial intelligence — both its massive energy demands and its potential to accelerate innovation
- Live events with the impressive events team at Axios.
I see this as both a homecoming and a new beginning.
I was among the first reporters hired by Axios back in 2017 — a leap of faith I took from my role at the time at The Wall Street Journal. I’m glad I did.
I learned so much about meeting readers where they are and what it means to work at a company that values transparency and positive intent. I know Axios has evolved as it’s grown, and I’m eager to reconnect with former colleagues and meet new ones.
Leaving in 2021 was tough, but I had the unique opportunity to launch Cipher, backed by Breakthrough Energy. I’m proud of what we built — impactful journalism on climate and energy solutions, and a stellar team I’ll consider teammates for life. (Read more about us here and how to follow all of us).
Cipher closed in July due to funding changes, but I return to Axios with new insights: about climate innovation, team building and what it takes for ideas to thrive.
At my core, I love learning. I look forward to discovering what’s next for the future of energy — and I’d love to hear what you think I should be covering.
Starting Sept. 8, I’ll be reachable at amy.harder@axios.com. Until then: amy@amyharder.com and you can always follow my work here at my Harder Line newsletter.
